Through Carson’s publishing company, Double Infiinity Publishing, Michael and his wife, Shenika, hope to not only publish books but ensure that their high-quality literature represents historical facts, as well as provide a voice and platform for educating readers. Now five books completed, the Carsons are well on their way to creating a book set that can be used to educate the masses. The first book was followed by a second detailing the influence of African Americans in music, then a third.

Their first book, “African-American Inventions That Changed the World: Influential Inventors and Their Revolutionary Creations,” marked the beginning of a line of books with a special purpose: educating readers about the excellence that exists in the Black community. “What we did was we bounced ideas off one another,” Michael said. It was through Matthew’s projects and the pandemic-related school shutdown that the pair came up with the idea to collaborate. “In teaching him, I was teaching myself things I didn’t even know,” Michael Carson said in a recent interview. Two years ago, Michael and his son began their journey when the Atlanta father was tasked with helping his then-second grader, Matthew, with a class project. As debate over critical race theory continues in this country, one father-son duo is committed to celebrating the history and contributions of African Americans.
